The title is given to an outstanding Filipino for having made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has conferred the Order of National Artists under Proclamations 1823-1839 to seven individuals.

SPA - Special Program for the Arts

Music, Arts and Physical Education as a subject area is one of the channels of students' self-expression. The area serves as the venue for recognizing and developing artistically and talented Marians.
It is in this premise that the SPA – Special Program for the Arts is founded. The program is designed to develop optimum growth and development of students with advance potential in visual arts to encourage participation and sharing of their given talents that will deepen their sense of service as Christian and productive Filipino citizens.

The target participants of the program are the students from Grades IV to VI who are specifically gifted or show advance potential in the area of visual arts like drawing, painting and photography. They are appraised using checklist of skill-related indicators of aptitude in recognition and application of the concept of multiple intelligences.
